How
do I enroll?
Once you have determined which school your child should attend
(see Boundaries and Enrollment), you will need to complete the
registration forms available at each school office. In addition
you will need:
- Birth Certificate
- Up-to-date immunization
records
- Proof of address
(Driver's License, P.G.&E. or telephone bill, or rental
agreement or final escrow papers.
- Physical form completed
by physician for all students entering Kindergarten

What
are the age requirements to enroll in Kindergarten?
A child must be five years old on or before December 2 of the
year he starts school.

Is
there day-care available? Is
daycare available at all schools?
Yes. There is free Kinder-care between the end of Kindergarten
and the end of the regular school day. There is Extended Day-care
available at each school site from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on regular
school days. It is offered during Winter and Spring breaks if
there is sufficient sign-up. The extended day-dare program is
closed during school holidays and SIP days. There is also a summer
daycare program offered by the district. For more information

middle school/high school will my child attend?
Upon completion of sixth grade, students enter the Santa Rosa
School District for secondary school. Most of the RVUSD students
move on to either Slater Middle School /Montgomery High School
or Rincon Valley Middle School/Maria Carrillo High School. For
information about schools, programs, or boundaries for grades
7-12, call Santa Rosa City Schools at 528-5373.
Students also have the option of attending the Rincon
Valley Charter School for grades 7 & 8. For information

How
do I get an inter- or intra-district transfer?
To obtain an inter-district transfer (between school districts)
or an intra-district transfer
(within the same district), complete the request form available
at all schools and district offices.

What
are the average class sizes in the district?
The Rincon
Valley District maintains a 20 to 1 class size in grades K - 3.
The average class size in grades 4 - 6 is 29.5.

I'm
interested in Home-schooling my child. How does this work?
Home school is available through the Rincon Valley district. For

Is
Independent study different from Home school?
Parents may request
independent study when a student will be absent for five or more
consecutive days. Teachers will provide packets of work to be
completed during the student's absence and turned in when the
student returns to school. Home school is a district program for
students whose parents choose to do all school instruction at
home. Please refer to the home
school link on this website or call the district office for
more information.

When
will I know my child's test results?
The state standardized test results (STAR test) are reported to
the district during the summer. Individual students' results are
reviews at conference time in the fall. In addition to the standardized
test, students in grades 2 - 6 are required to master District
Academic Standards. These end-of-the-year standards are assessed
in January, as a benchmark, and again in May; parents receive
a special standards report twice per year with the student report
card.

When
do report cards come out?
There are three reporting periods during the school year - one
ending in November, one ending in March, and the final evaluation
at the end of school in June. Conferences are available following
the fall and winter assessments. If you have concerns about your
child's progress, please consult your child's teacher.
