Kindergarten Information

Full Day Kindergarten in Rincon Valley

The kindergarten classes in Rincon Valley began following the primary day schedule beginning in the 2009-2010 school year. This change provided for additional time – one hour – for the social and emotional development of our kindergarten students.

The kindergarten students’ education is of great importance, and we felt there needed to be more time in the day for less structured activities while under the supervision of the kindergarten teacher. Kindergarten children now have additional time for opportunities such as creative play, creative movement, music, story times, free choice time.

Research points to early childhood as a potential time for preventing the achievement gap before it is established. Studies indicate that full-day enriched kindergarten can lead to improved academic achievement and may help close the achievement gap early.

The first few weeks of school may be an adjustment for some students to this length of the school day. However, an average of 60 percent of our kindergarten students stay for child care. In addition, many of our students go to private child care after kindergarten. By extending the school day, they are involved with their classmates in a number of additional activities, or they can choose to rest and spend time alone all under the watchful and caring eye of the teacher.

If you have any questions please email or call Diane Moresi, Superintendent.
