Physical Education

Instructional Physical Education Programs

The Rincon Valley Union School District offers a dynamic physical education program to all students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Students in these grades receive two forty-five minute intensive sessions per week with the PE Paraeducator. Students are taught fundamental skills along with learning the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. The PE Paraeducators at all sites utilize the SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids!) Program along with elements of a Rincon Valley home-grown program. The PE Program in Rincon Valley helps students develop healthy habits that will serve them throughout their lives.

Physical education in Kindergarten through third grade is taught by the students’ classroom teachers. All teachers in the Rincon Valley Union School District have been trained to teach the SPARK curriculum. The activities and games at these levels focus primarily on body movement and coordination. The SPARK Program provides students with the opportunity to learn body control and teamwork prior to learning how to play traditional sporting activities.

RVUSD All-District Track Meet

In addition to the regular physical education sessions at the school sites, the Rincon Valley Union School District holds its annual All-District Track and Field Meet each year in May. All district fifth and sixth grade students convene at the Montgomery High School track to participate in a variety of track and field events.

• Running events include 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 1600m, 4 x 100m relay and the 4 x 200m relay
• Field events include the discus, shot put, standing broad jump and long jump
• Team bucket-stacking contest

This meet is the culmination of each schools ongoing physical education program, and provides students with the opportunity to take part in a positive competition that promotes sportsmanship and school spirit. During the regular physical education program at each school, students learn and practice the various events gaining experience and building confidence prior to the track meet. All fifth and sixth grade students are encouraged to compete in at least one event.
Planning and holding an event that involves this many students take many volunteers. If you are interested in helping with this event, please e-mail Mr. Herfurth, principal at Binkley School, or Ms. McCormick, principal at Village School.
