Spring Creek and Matanzas schools have been converted to a new charter school at two campuses.

The Spring Creek Matanzas Charter School’s vision is to provide an educational program committed to a rigorous core academic program based upon the California state standards and district standards. In addition, the students’ educational experiences will include both technology and the fine arts, and their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development will reflect a well-rounded education of the 21st century.
The curriculum at the Spring Creek Matanzas Charter School has been developed to provide expanded opportunities for students. They will first attend the primary school (Spring Creek) where a differentiated curriculum will specifically meet the needs of the four/five through seven-year-olds. In addition, the kindergarten, first, and second grade students at Spring Creek will soon have access to the computer lab, giving them an earlier opportunity to begin their technological education. They will have the benefit of a physical education specialist as well. Upon moving to the intermediate school (Matanzas), students and their families will experience greater choice, opportunities, and parent involvement. The third through sixth grade students at Matanzas will have the opportunity to participate in an enhanced technology and fine arts program. Future plans include Spanish offered to most intermediate students.

Rincon Valley 7/8 Charter Expansion Delayed

At the March 2, 2010 Board of Trustees meeting, the Superintendent recommended that the expansion of the 7th/8th grade Rincon Valley Charter School to the Matanzas campus be delayed.

The delay was decided upon due to a number of factors.

  • The state loan that the school qualified for has been held up at the State level for all qualifying districts. The timeline for notification of the loan may be a month from now.
  • The State budget continues to be unsettled and the effect on the charter budget remains a question at this time.
  • The reconfiguration of the Spring Creek and Matanzas Schools has gone well for the most part. There are continuing concerns from some of the community that the district would like to continue to work through before proceeding with the expansion.
  • Once the loan has been determined the Center for Community Opinion will complete a random phone survey seeking input on the expansion.

Both the Superintendent and Principals of both schools continue to be open to input from parents and the community on issues regarding the expansion of the 7th/8th grade Charter. If you have comments or suggestions, please email Diane Moresi.
