Village School creates a partnership between educators and parents who work together toward the best interests of children. High academic standards are clearly outlined in our grade level "expectancies and standards." Our front hallway always contains a colorful display of student artwork and writings. Each week begins with a Monday morning all-school assembly. At the assembly we sing and have announcements and recognition awards. On Wednesday evenings, children and parents gather for library nights. Our Parents' Club provides school-wide enrichment activities for our children and parents. Village School is a place where everyone learns and everyone teaches. Our goal is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives. We expect success.

What is RtI?
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a process that provides intervention and educational support to all students at increasing levels of intensity based on their individual needs. The goal is to prevent problems and intervene early so that students can be successful.
RtI process has three tiers that build upon one another. Each tier provides a more intense level of support:

Tier 1 includes high quality instruction. The school provides all students with access to high quality curriculum, instruction, and behavior supports in the general education classroom.

Tier 2 includes additional targeted, supplemental instruction/interventions. The school provides interventions to small groups of students who need more support than they are receiving through Tier 1.

Tier 3 includes intensive interventions. The school develops and implements interventions to meet the individual needs of students.

How?
RtI has three essential elements:

1) Screening – every student is briefly assessed 3 times per year K-6, identifying students as benchmark (no risk), strategic (some risk), and intensive (high risk).

2) Intervening – includes both Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students who are at some risk or high risk.

3) Progress monitoring – students receiving additional instruction are assessed every two to three weeks to ensure progress.

We use a research validated assessment system called DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) to quickly and to efficiently screen every student and progress monitor those students who need additional intervention. For more information regarding DIBELS, please talk to your child’s teacher and/or visit https://dibels.uoregon.edu/ .

We are very pleased to have incorporated the RtI system into our comprehensive educational program at Village.
