Volunteer Information

The Rincon Valley District welcomes volunteers! Some programs rely heavily on volunteer help - such as Odyssey of the Mind and Junior Great Books. Parent volunteers are also needed in the classroom, for major field trips, and on special event projects. Ask the principal at your school about volunteer opportunities -- be involved in your child's education!

Note: volunteers in charge of students must be fingerprinted at the Sonoma County Office of Education. Forms are available at the District Office.

Schools of Hope

Spring Creek School is excited to be a part of United Way’s Schools of Hope program. Research shows that a student who is not at least a moderately skilled reader by third grade is unlikely to graduate from high school. Schools of Hope is a proven, early intervention model for children who are struggling with reading. The core components of the program include one-to-one literacy tutoring, volunteer recruitment and training, parent engagement, and rigorous program evaluation.
Each week at Spring Creek, 10-15 amazing volunteers come to tutor students on beginning reading skills. They practice blending sounds to make words, reading decodable text, and other early reading skills. The students are excited to work with the caring adults who donate their time so selflessly to assist the children in the community.
You can help! Volunteer as a Schools of Hope literacy tutor and make a difference in a child’s life in as little as 1 hour a week. Learn more
about the program and being a volunteer by contacting Barbara Fisher at the Volunteer Center at 707.573.3399 or bfisher@volunteernow.org.
