Instructional ProgramsTechnologyTechnology can virtually bring the world to the child, providing a depth and richness of instructional approaches that reach children. Our goal is to help students become active producers and consumers of information, able to communicate effectively and critically analyze the ever-increasing flow of data that they receive. The children become "knowledge architects" using the rich resources that technology provides at their fingertips. It can bring personal meaning and expression to the curriculum through a unique and powerful medium. The district currently provides a technology program in grades three through six. There are eight computer labs, one at each school, with thirty computers in each lab. The emphasis of the lab program is on keyboarding, word processing, publishing, and research. Students are expected to pass a basic keyboarding test at the end of each grade. They can complete their written work or practice their skills in the classroom, which supports one computer networked to the lab. Students have access to a variety of technology including digital cameras and scanners to support the presentation of their written and oral projects. Networked technology systems permit efficient and effective communications within and outside the district. A district-wide network and infrastructure is in place that connects all school sites and classrooms. This provides students the ability to communicate student-to-student, class-to-class, and school-to-school. Immediate technology plans include developing an integrated curriculum and technology program through which students engage in the use of technology on a daily basis as they move through their day's work in reading, math, science, and social studies. Access to learning with technology will be promoted as a community investment, encouraging active partnerships between schools, businesses, homes, and the community.
