AIR JAM—JUNE
Attention Students and Parents—Our ever popular AIR Jam
(student variety show) will be held on May 28th at 12:45PM. Ms.
McCormick, sixth grade teacher, is the director.
We will be looking for acts of all types such as singing, dancing,
drama, comedy, juggling, magic, playing piano or another instrument,
poetry reading, lip syncing, etc. We will be having children sign
up for their act in May, but children are much more successful
when a parent can spend some time helping them with their act.
Procedures:
1. Act must be appropriate for students. (Humorous acts are always
well received).
2. Acts can be no longer than 2 minutes.
3. Students must supply and bring any equipment necessary other
than a CD player, piano, etc. any costumes used in the act need
to be worn during the practice session and again must be appropriate
for an elementary audience.
This is a great time for students. Encourage your child to be
part of the fun!
SCHOOLS PLUS MONEY
Thank you Schools Plus for donating $500 to Binkley. We have
used this money to help support our Fine Arts Day. It was fabulous.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS. GALLAWAY
Mrs. Gallaway was chosen as the district’s
TEACHER OF THE MONTH for April. She is a rare exception for a
person in her fifth year of teaching. She quickly understands
the needs of the entire school organization and is willing to
take on a leadership role to get the job done. Mrs. Gallaway continues
to organize the Wednesday Enrichment Program and is a tutor for
the Jump Start program. She is an outstanding team member and
an exemplary teacher. Binkley is very privileged to have a teacher
of this caliber at the school and in the district.
2007/2008 YEARBOOKS ON SALE NOW
The school yearbook club has just put together a
fabulous all color yearbook. The yearbook is on sale for $25.00.
Yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school. Watch for
flyers to come home in the Thursday packets.
BOOK DRIVE
Again Binkley Shines!!!!!!
The Wednesday Enrichment Class, Random Acts of Kindness,
led by Mrs. Gallaway, collected 1124 books from Binkley families
during their book drive. These books have sorted into approximately
210 bags for families needing a selection of books to be read
at home. These bags will contain five to seven books that a student
can check out one week at a time.
CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR 2008/09
Binkley’s faculty will soon be involved in
the process of developing class lists for 08/09. We strongly believe
that the best learning environment is one in which each classroom
has a variety of students with their unique talents, characteristics
and personalities. We are very careful in constructing our class
lists including the following.
• Variety of academic performance levels in
all basic subjects
• Independent workers
• Creative thinkers
• Leadership and team player qualities
• Learning Challenges
• Behavior Situations
• Boy/girl ratio
The faculty is open to an educationally based or
other compelling parent request for a specific teacher. We will
take that request into consideration along with the above-mentioned
factors. Requests, however, will not be the controlling factor
in placements if granting a request will jeopardize the creation
of balanced classrooms.
Teacher assignments at this time of the year are
always considered tentative placements.
Because of the state’s budget situation, teaching positions
for the new teachers will not be determined until the district
can closely verify the number of students attending school next
year.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL MEMBERS NEEDED
There are two parent positions open on the School
Site Council for the 2008/10 term. The School Site Council (SSC)
includes an elected group of parents and teachers. The term for
each member is two years. The principal is a continuous member
on the council.
The purpose of this council is to monitor the School
Improvement Program (SIP) as outlined by the State Department
of Education and the district. The purposes of the program are
to enhance the instructional program, auxiliary services, school
environment, and the school organization in order to meet the
needs of all students.
Meetings are held once a month from 3:00 –
4:30 PM usually on the third or fourth Monday. There are few,
if any, outside activities required.
Parent members are elected by a school-wide parent
election. If you are interested in receiving more information
about the program and/or running for a position on the council,
please complete the response form and return it to the office
by May 9, 2008.
Members of the SSC always say it is a lot of fun
and that their input makes a difference!
