Meal Program

Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are proud to offer your child nutritious hot meals daily at
school. Our meals are analyzed using the Nutrikids computer analysis
program that is required by our National School Lunch Program.
State and Federal guidelines mandate that lunch provide one-third
of a child’s daily nutritional requirements for Protein,
Vitamin A., Vitamin C, Iron, and Calories. Calories from fat are
below 30% and below 10% for saturated fats. Breakfasts provide
one-third of the daily requirements. We offer fresh fruits and
vegetables on the menu. Breakfast is served at Spring Creek, Village,
Matanzas, Whited and Madrone schools during the half-hour before
school and at Charter school during the morning break. If your
school does not have a breakfast program, please call 546-5192
to ask about picking up breakfast at a school that serves breakfast.
Students can receive meals by pre-paying into their meal account
and using the meal card provided to deduct money when getting
a meal. Lunches are $2.75 or $3.00 at Charter school ($.40 if
qualified for reduced price meals). Breakfasts are $1.25 or $.30
reduced price. Applications for the Free and Reduced Price Meal
Program can be submitted at any time during the school year. Students
eligible for free or reduced price meals last year must submit
a new application to be eligible again this year. The deadline
is Sept. 15th. Guests (parents, grandparents, sibling, etc.) are
welcome to purchase lunch. Please order with your teacher or at
the office before 9:00 a.m. Adult lunches are $3.50.
On the monthly menu, please count the number of meals your child
would like to purchase. Multiply by your meal price to figure
the monthly amount to prepay to your child’s account. Please
order monthly if possible. Money will stay in student’s
account until meals are taken. Call the Food Service Office at
546-5192 for account balances or have your child ask the cashier
for the account balance.
Payments can be made by cash or check and should be brought to
the breakfast cashier or to the office payment box with student’s
full name on the envelope. Payments can be made on-line once school
begins. See the MyNutrikids link on the District web page. This
system will email you when account balance is low. There is a
$1.75 fee per deposit.
When a child’s account is down to one lunch or less, the
cashier will stamp their hand as a reminder (if acceptable) and
a reminder note will be sent home. If payment is not received
and a student asks for meals, only two lunches can be charged
(-$5.50). After that, a snack will be given at no charge until
payment is received.
We encourage you to take advantage of our nutritious meal program.
Sincerely,
Kate Wolf, Food Services Supervisor
