California Shake-Out

The Great California Shake-Out is an annual drill practiced all over California, and one of the many drills our campus practices throughout the year. On Thursday, all Matanzas and RVCS students and staff participated in the Great California Shake-Out, during which everyone practiced the proper routines and procedures in case of such an emergency. This drill took place district-wide at 9:30 a.m. Everyone did a great job.

In the event we encountered a real earthquake or other emergency, parents would be informed via our automated phone/text/email response system and on the RVUSD app.  This system would provide information and next steps, including student pick-up and campus evacuation procedures.  In Rincon Valley Union School District, we recognize the importance of practicing drills in the event we ever needed to successfully implement our emergency procedures, and we thank the entire community for its support in keeping our campus safe.

Basketball

The Dolphins girls basketball team had a great season! Under the extraordinary coaching of Coach Parry, our diligent Dolphins displayed great team work, communication, perseverance, and most importantly FUN on the court—and, we had fabulous fan base cheering them on at every game. Come out and cheer them on at the Basketball Tournament this Saturday at Sonoma Academy. Go Dolphins!

After School Safety

Many Matanzas families pick students up along Douglas after school. If you do so, please encourage your children to use the crosswalk along Douglas and Yulupa. Cars can make the turn from Yulupa to Douglas at a very fast speed, and it can be very dangerous for students to cross mid-block. Also, please model this safe behavior for your students if you are crossing the street. We want everyone safe as we navigate the busy pick-up time. Thank you for your support on this!

Also, many students go to the park adjacent to the Matanzas playground after school to play while waiting to be picked  up. Please be advised that this area is not supervised after school, and we do encourage you to either pick your children up right away or ask them to wait to be picked up in a supervised area. Thank you!
