Dear Spring Creek Families,

The more I spend time at Spring Creek, the more I feel connected. The RVUSD Board of Education Trustees have approved the reconfiguration plan. I want you all to know that I am here to support in whatever capacity I can to assure that our students, staff, teachers and parents have a smooth and positive transition to Matanzas.

Our Kindergarten registration begins this Tuesday, Jan 21st. When registering, please bring in the following: A photo ID, proof of residence (PG&E bill for example) and proof of immunizations. Please be mindful that our office manager, Sarah Hall, and our office assistant, Vikki Ausiello will be very busy in the next two weeks registering new students. Please be patient and understanding.

Cheetah Awards Assembly this Friday, Jan. 24th at 8:20. Come see our students receive awards for communication. We also have a guest speaker coming to share about communication, kindness, tattling versus responsible reporting, and defining bullying.

Please join us at our general PTA meeting this Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:30. Get involved in our school. We want to see you. Our children benefit from parents who are involved.

Please join us for three events on Feb.7th :

  • Student Site Council (SSC) 7:30 AM

  • English Language Acquisition Committee (ELAC) meeting 8:45 both in the SC Library.

  • Valentine’s Social PTA Event! Fun! Fun! Fun! 6:00

Thank you Spring Creek families for helping be a part of the solution to our parking, pick up and drop off. I would love to have more parent volunteer help, even if you only have 15 minutes. Thank you in advance for using the crosswalks only and staying in your vehicle in the white curb drop off zone. The idea is to keep pulling forward in the white zone. Last week we had a near miss of a student getting hit by a car. Please do NOT jaywalk. Please set an example for our students by using crosswalks.

Proud Principal. When students demonstrate character traits such as kindness, respect, perseverance, hard work, passing a level of Lexia, learning all of the sight words, etc., teachers will send them up to the office to receive a sticker that says “Your Principal is Proud of You.”  Additionally, a note comes home to you as to why your child was selected for the Proud Principal Award. Each Friday I will take photos of all of the students who were sent to the office and put the photo in my weekly newsletter. Seeing kids in my office for making positive choices was so rewarding. Here is a photo from last week.

I am so proud of these students!!

Counseling Corner

Kimochi

Kimochi (KEY.MO.CHEE) means “feeling” in Japanese. Kimochis™ characters come with small pillows with a feeling (happy, sad, silly, brave…) printed on one side, and a corresponding facial expression on the other. Each character has a special pocket where kids can store the Kimochis™ feelings.

Our amazing school counselor, Krista Boyd, goes into classrooms and teaches lessons on social emotional health using the Kimochi Kits. The children have responded so positively to this program. Thank you RVUSD for purchasing these kits.

Last Chance After School Classes-Are you interested in your child taking a culinary class? How about ceramics, fencing, athletics, art, photography or chess? Click the link for more information. The Rincon Valley Education Foundation is offering their winter after school programs. There was a flyer that was sent home before break. Here is the link to register if you are interested.

http://www.rvef.org/afterschoolenrichment.html or you can register in person at the District Office 1000 Yulupa Ave. This is the last chance to sign up.

Rainy Days: If it is raining at the start of school, students will go to the MPR to watch age appropriate G rated cartoons/movies or educational movies beginning at 7:45 AM. If it is raining during recesses, students will have indoor recess. If it is lightly drizzling, students will play outside.

I am keeping this information in the Cheetah Chatter for another week.

Did you know?

  • PE-We have an amazing credential PE teacher, Coach Wilson. Coach Wilson takes our students four times a week and teaches them the PE standards in a fun and engaging way. While coach Wilson has half of the students from each class per grade level, teachers work with the remaining students to provide small group instruction.

  • Counselor-We have a school counselor that is on our site part time. Ms. Krista goes into classrooms and teaches social-emotional learning using our district adopted curriculum. Additionally, she facilitates classroom circles and friendship groups. Thank you, Ms. Krista, for ALL you do.

  • Recess Options- Ms. Ana, our English Language Assistant, volunteers her lunch time to offer two programs to our students during lunch recess. Restful Recess is an option for students who want to have an indoor recess option. Ms. Ana prepares art activities, games and quiet activities. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, she runs the Culture Club. Students learn about different cultures, engage in cultural arts and music. Thank you Ms. Ana.

  • Music- Once a week students attend a half hour music class taught by credentialed music teachers. Third graders are learning to read music and play song flutes.
