A MEAL FOR MADRONE STAFF - A long time Sequoia Elementary family, the Brunos (owners of Bruno's on 4th and Ricky's Eastbound), recently approached the school district with an idea -- "Let's feed Rincon Valley teachers and staff!" In an effort to recognize all the hard working employees of RVUSD, Ricky's Eastbound will provide a take out dinner to all the employees of one RVUSD school per week over the next few months. A few generous community members donated the seed money to get this endeavor started. And, to keep it going, we need the support of our RVUSD families. Madrone’s “Take Out Dinner Night” is this week! Our teachers, administrators, aides, counselors, and custodians have been doing their very best to support our students during these challenging times. This is a great opportunity to show them our appreciation. A donation of just $15 could buy dinner for your favorite teacher, librarian or office manager! Please consider donating to the RVUSD Staff Appreciation Meal Fund by clicking this link to the PayPal page https://www.paypal.me/rickyseastbound or go to Ricky's Eastbound web site https://www.rickyseastbound.com/ and look for the red "Donate to the RVUSD Staff Appreciation Meal Fund" button. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated!

Dear Rincon Valley Staff and Families, As a District, we are continuing to monitor the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for reducing the risk of contracting and spreading viruses. We are providing schools with hand sanitizer and wipes to reduce the potential spread of germs. We are encouraging frequent student hand-washing and reminding students to cough/sneeze into an elbow or tissue. Our custodial staff have received direction to work directly with principals to ensure that classrooms are being properly cleaned. It’s important that everyone (staff, students and family members) take steps to reduce the spread of illness, especially to protect whose who are most vulnerable: *wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer *avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing, then wash your hands *stay home when ill, have a fever and limit contact with others *avoid contact with people who are sick *regularly clean high touch surfaces This is a dynamic situation and we are continuing with all school activities as scheduled. As we get additional information from the County Health Department, we will make adjustments as needed.

MAKER DAY - TK celebrated their much anticipated Maker’s Day yesterday! Students were encouraged to be creative and use their imagination and problem solving skills to build anything they can dream up! Their excitement was palpable. Some masterpieces were fairy castles, space stations, and a hotel for animals. Many thanks to parents who donated items and of course, to Mrs. Reno for providing this opportunity for our youngest Mustangs!

Dear RVUSD families, We just found out that the scope of the PG&E power shutdown event has been greatly reduced which means we can now open three schools that were previously announced for closure. The following sites WILL be open for students tomorrow and Thursday: Madrone Binkley Whited Village Spring Creek Matanzas RVCS- Matanzas The following sites are still on the closure list. Austin Creek Sequoia RVCS-Sequoia If anything happens to change for these last 3 school sites, we will update you as soon as possible. Once again, we extend our appreciation for your patience and flexibility.

There is a potential PSPS event Wednesday into Thursday. If this shutdown occurs, it will be at Whited, Madrone, Binkley, RVCS-Sequoia, Sequoia and Austin Creek. Village, Spring Creek, Matanzas and RVCS-Matanzas will not be affected. There is a chance that there will not be a shutdown but if there is, here is the draft plan IF the latest information we have from PG&E does not change: Wednesday: If we lose power it will not be until 2pm so all schools will be open on Wednesday. We will continue to offer extended care after school even without power. Thursday: PG&E will start powering us back up on Thursday morning, on the earlier side. So, at this point in time we are planning on starting school without power if necessary knowing the power will come on some time during the school day. We are working on the details for sack lunches and phone communication guidelines. We have checked with our insurance company and the California Department of Education and have learned that we can have staff and students on campus without power as long as we can determine it is safe. We will use fire watch protocols, lanterns, and ask students and staff to bundle up for the morning chill. We will use cell phones and walkie talkies to communicate and let families know how to reach school sites if they need to. If there are any changes to this plan, we will be sure to let you know as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience during this uncertainty.

October 8, 2019 Dear Rincon Valley Union School District Families, Due to a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event, we will be closing all of the schools in our district, including the district office tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9th. This means all after-school programs, such as athletics and aftercare, are also canceled. PG&E expects to shut off electricity to these schools because of the increased risk of fires. PG&E uses PSPS when weather conditions such as high winds and low humidity create a high risk for fire. PG&E has informed us that it will not turn the power back on until those dry and windy weather conditions have passed and that it could take up to 48-hours to restore power once the weather improves. This means that the schools will likely remain closed on Thursday, October 10 and potentially Friday, October 11. We will contact you as soon as more information from PG&E becomes available. Thank you for your understanding.

In order to comply with federal nutrition standards, we want to keep birthday celebrations at school healthy, fair and easy! This is a reminder to parents about RVUSD's new Wellness Practice for our schools: our teachers and staff will not be accepting food into their classrooms to celebrate student birthdays. If a family would like to send in a non-food treat instead, stickers or pencils are a great idea! Brainstorm ideas with your kids!
