Dear Matanzas Families,
As I reflect on the 2019-20 school year, I am struck by what a resilient, warm, and welcoming community Matanzas is. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Matanzas students, parents, and staff for continuing to build a strong and thriving community. Of special note are the truly tireless and dedicated teachers we have at Matanzas. We recognize and appreciate them no time more so than this year, where we saw teachers transform classroom learning to distance learning within a matter of days, all the while ensuring that students were learning, cared for, and remained part of the classroom and school community.
Our Matanzas Dolphins have been through a lot together this year. We made it through firestorms, power-outages, smoke days, and a global pandemic! Despite all of this, or perhaps because of it, this year we have learned resilience, empathy, courage, kindness, generosity, and good citizenship. We’ve been through a lot together, and we’ve come through it all Dolphin Strong!
As you know, this is my last year at Matanzas. As I say goodbye, please know that it has been my great honor to be a part of this extraordinary community. Going forward I will take pride in having been part of the resilience, positivity, and inclusivity at Matanzas. And, although I will be moving to a different campus here in Rincon Valley, in my heart I will always be a part of the Matanzas community--once a Dolphin, always a Dolphin!
Thank you sincerely for trusting me with the education and caring of your children for the last six years here at Matanzas. I will miss them and you.
I hope you all have a relaxing, enriching, safe summer filled with fun and family! And, no matter what 2020-2021 throws at Matanzas, I have no doubt that you all will come through Dolphin Strong!
Kate Westrich, Matanzas Principal
