Dear Matanzas Families,
Many staff members here at Matanzas have noticed that many of our students are expressing concern over the recent events involving US and Iran aggression. As is typical of children, their reactions run the spectrum from worried about a war to worried that something bad will happen to themselves, family, or community. World events such as these can also trigger fears and worries in children that may seem unrelated or “out of the blue.”
We care deeply for your children, and are reassuring them that they are safe and cared for by all the adults around them, while encouraging them to also speak to you at home. Nevertheless, children are talking to each other on the playground and in class, which means they may be bringing worries suggested by other students home with them.
Our home-school partnership is key, and if there are any specific concerns or questions that have come up for you or your children regarding current events or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact the office, your child’s teacher, or our school counselor.
Kate Westrich, Matanzas Principal
