Whited Weekly 9/30/19

All Eagles Soar, Whatever It Takes!

It is starting to feel like fall! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend.

Ms. Linda, our amazing custodian, is back after her leave. It is wonderful to have her positive energy on campus. This Wednesday, October 2, is National Custodian's Appreciation Day. We would love your help in honoring her on Wednesday. Shh, it's a surprise! We are encouraging students to wear a red top and black bottoms, just like Ms. Linda's uniform. Please also feel free to write a note of appreciation or have your child write one and drop it off in the office or give it to Ms. Linda on Wednesday.

International Walk and Roll to School Day is also this Wednesday, October 2nd. Families are encouraged to walk, scoot, or ride their bikes to school and we are going to see how many students we can get to participate. As always, students should only ride their bike or scooter if they are wearing a helmet. If you do not live close enough to walk or roll, we will have a walking school bus meeting up at the corner of Middle Rincon and Winding Creek. Adults will lead the student the couple of blocks to school. Students who participate will receive a raffle ticket for prizes and the class with the highest percentage of participants will receive a prize as well as the Golden Sneaker Trophy to display in their classroom.

Whited is forming an Odyssey of the Mind team for the 2019/2020 season! Odyssey of the Mind teams engage in creative problem solving that culminates in a tournament on February 22nd, 2020. The team will meet once a week after school on Fridays, plus additional meetings on evenings and/or weekends beginning in November as needed to prepare for the tournament. More information about Odyssey of the Mind can be found here https://www.odysseyofthemind.com/ and here https://www.redwoodomer.org/. There will be an information night for parents and interested students at 6:00 pm on Thursday, 10/3 in the Whited Library. Please contact Emily Asencio (emily.asencio@gmail.com) with questions.

4th, 5th and 6th graders have band or orchestra on Mondays and Thursdays. Students need to remember to bring their instruments on those days. We have had a lot of instruments dropped off during the school day, which disrupts the classrooms. Please encourage your child to come up with a plan to ensure they remember their instrument on those days.

Our next PTO meeting is this Thursday at 8:20 in Room 3.

Thinking about middle school? RVUSD offers a choice for middle school, right here in our district.  Rincon Valley Charter School is a small middle school with two campuses, Sequoia and Matanzas. We offer a rigorous academic program with challenging and exciting learning opportunities; our schools use engaging, collaborative curriculum and projects to create hands-on learning opportunities for 7th and 8th graders.

The RVCS enrollment window opens October 14. Enrollment is online--no paper application necessary!  For additional enrollment information and links, go to rvusd.org.  We also invite you to attend:
