A Little Bit of History: On Jan. 27th, 1825 US Congress approved Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma), clearing the way for the forced relocation of the Eastern Indian tribes via the "Trail of Tears".

Dear Spring Creek Families,

I can hardly believe that it is the end of January already. Thank you to our amazing office staff who have helped many families register their children for Kindergarten this week. We look forward to meeting more families this week. When registrering, please bring in the following:

  • A photo ID

  • Proof of residence (PG&E bill for example)

  • Proof of immunizations.

Please be mindful that our office manager, Sarah Hall, and our office assistant, Vikki Ausiello will be very busy in the next few weeks registering new students. Please be patient and understanding.

PTA News:

Thank you to those of you who attended our General PTA meeting last Wednesday evening. Our PTA will be sponsoring The Valentine’s Day Social on Feb.7th @6pm. An important reminder: Students must be with a parent in order to attend this event. Parents may not drop their children off and leave.

Please join us for three events on Feb.7th :

  • Student Site Council (SSC) 7:30 AM

  • English Language Acquisition Committee (ELAC) meeting 8:45 both in the SC Library.

  • Valentine’s Social PTA Event! Fun! Fun! Fun! 6:00

Do you have a Timeshare, Hotel or AirB&B connection? Perhaps you have a connection to a business, artist or service. Our amazing PTA is working on a big fundraiser in April (Tentative date, April 3rd) where we will have an adults only evening of comedy, BINGO, a live and silent auction. Please share your connections for auction items with Jennifer Graue:  Graue.jennifer@gmail.com

Parking- Be a Part of the Solution: Thank you Spring Creek families for helping be a part of the solution to our parking, pick up and drop off. I would love to have more parent/grandparent volunteer help, even if you only have 15 minutes. Thank you in advance for using the crosswalks only and staying in your vehicle in the white curb drop off zone. The idea is to keep pulling forward in the white zone.. Please set an example for our students by using crosswalks.

Proud Principal:  When students demonstrate character traits such as kindness, respect, perseverance, hard work, passing a level of Lexia, learning all of the sight words, etc., teachers will send them up to the office to receive a sticker that says “Your Principal is Proud of You.” Additionally, a note comes home to you as to why your child was selected for the Proud Principal Award. Each Friday I will take photos of all of the students who were sent to the office and put the photo in my weekly newsletter. Seeing  kids in my office for making positive choices was so rewarding. Here is a photo from last week.

NOTE: I had this photo sized up and orientated correctly. When I went to send this through this format, it did not orientate properly. I promise you I tried so may times.

Counseling Corner

Part 2 of 3

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control. The Zones of Regulations is used in every classroom and is a common language used in all areas of our school. Our noon duty supervisors, office staff, and all staff on our campus use this common language.

Our amazing counselor, Krista Boyd is skilled in teaching kids how to use the Zones of Regulations to regulate their emotions.

Why teach the Zones?! We need to teach our kids GOOD coping and regulation strategies so they can help themselves when they become stressed, anxious, or sad. Typically, kids who can self-regulate will turn into teens who can self-regulate. Self-regulation skills are vital for the success and happiness of our children.

WHAT ARE THE ZONES? There are four zones to describe how your brain and body feel.

BLUE ZONE: Your body is running slow, such as when you are tired, sick, sad or bored.

GREEN ZONE: Like a green light, you are “good to go.” You body may feel happy, calm and focused.

YELLOW ZONE: This zone describes when you start to lose control, such as when you are frustrated, anxious, worried, silly or surprised. Use caution when you are in this zone.

RED ZONE: This zone is for extreme emotions such as anger, terror and aggression. When you are in this zone, you are out of control, have trouble making good decisions and must STOP!

Rainy Days: If it is raining at the start of school, students will go to the MPR to watch age appropriate G rated cartoons/movies or educational movie beginning at 7:45 AM. If it is raining during recesses, students will have indoor recess. If it is lightly drizzling, students will play outside.
