Dear Spring Creek Families,

PTA News:

Our PTA Valentine’s Day Social was so much fun! I thoroughly enjoyed dancing and taking photos with our students. Thanks to all of the volunteers and staff who helped make this event so special.

We need your help please!

Comedy & Bingo Night Adults Only Fundraising Event:

Do you have a Timeshare, Hotel or Airbnb connection? Perhaps you have a connection to a business, artist or service. Our amazing PTA is working on a big fundraiser in April (Tentative date, April 3rd) where we will have an adults only evening of comedy, BINGO, a live and silent auction. Please share your connections for auction items with Jennifer Graue: Graue.jennifer@gmail.com

Friendly Reminder: Wellness policy- When purchasing or making your child’s Valentines, please refrain from buying Valentine’s with candy attached.

Safety Update:

Each month, we have a safety drill (Fire, earthquake and Lockdown). The students have been doing a fantastic job of practicing the drills and quietly listening to directions. This month, I have to reschedule the fire drill that was scheduled for this week Feb.12th. I will keep you posted.

All of our door windows have or will have blinds to cover windows on the doors. Two thirds of them have been installed. Thanks to our district office for paying for these.

Book Faire Coming soon: Spring Creek is partnering with Scholastic to put on a Book Fair before and after school during conference week, 3/2-3/6. This amazing event takes place at the Spring Creek library. It promotes reading and raises much-needed money to replenish and/or update the Spring Creek library. Please sign up to help using the sign up genius link! We especially need afternoon cashiers!!!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Kathy Pecsar at KPecsar@rvusd.org

Parking: Be a Part of the Solution: Thank you Spring Creek families for helping be a part of the solution to our parking, pick up and drop off. I would love to have more parent/grandparent volunteer help, even if you only have 15 minutes. Thank you in advance for using the crosswalks only and staying in your vehicle in the white curb drop off zone. The idea is to keep pulling forward in the white zone. Please set an example for our students by using crosswalks.

Proud Principal:  When students demonstrate character traits such as kindness, respect, perseverance, hard work, passing a level of Lexia, learning all of the sight words, etc., teachers will send them up to the office to receive a sticker that says “Your Principal is Proud of You.” Additionally, a note comes home to you as to why your child was selected for the Proud Principal Award. Each Friday I will take photos of all of the students who were sent to the office and put the photo in my weekly newsletter. Seeing  kids in my office making positive choices is so rewarding. Here is a photo from last week.

In addition to these wonderful student’s, Ms. Marlar’s entire class was honored for the Proud Principal award this week. They worked very hard on their STAR reading assessment.

I am so proud of these students!!

SCIENCE LAB

Ms. Anie Morey is our science facilitator.

Thank you Ms. Anie for making science so fun.

Students are taught science in their classroom and then go to the science lab every other week  for hands-on instruction with our science facilitator. Here are some recent photos of some of those hands-on moments. Mystery Science is the curriculum used in the science lab and it is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. (NGSS)

Students were assigned a task of designing a hat to protect them from the sun using a paper plate , paper bags, tin foil, paper towels and string. They imagined they were on an island and had to design a hat to protect them from the sun using materials found in a lunch box. Here are some photos of Ms. Chrisler’s 2nd grade class.

Rainy Days: If it is raining at the start of school, students will go to the MPR to watch age appropriate G rated cartoons/movies or educational movies beginning at 7:45 AM. If it is raining during recesses, students will have indoor recess. If it is lightly drizzling, students will play outside.
