Heath Update Graphic

March 12, 2020

Dear RVUSD Staff and Families,

In the last 24 hours we have seen a number of new restrictions implemented to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Several California school districts and universities announced that they would be closing schools and classes due to Coronavirus concerns.  Other schools have suspended out-of-district athletic and student activities. We are analyzing the information coming in and working directly with the county support systems to make the decisions for our community.  In addition to important daily hygiene measures such as hand washing; social distancing is one of the best ways we can act to help prevent it from spreading. For that reason, we are canceling or rescheduling all field trips, large group activities, and other community gatherings effective Monday, March 23rd- April 3rd.

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. The decision to suspend /close a campus or the entire district will be made with input from county public health officials.  Should such a decision be necessary, staff and families will be notified in the same manner as any other school closure day (email, text, phone call). This notification will be followed with additional information and instructions.

RVUSD is in the process of preparing for the possibility of school closures.  District leadership is working directly with the County Office of Education and the County Health Department to make sure that we have the most current information on how COVID 19 is impacting our community.  IF it is determined that we need to close a school or the entire district in response to a local case of the Coronavirus, the following steps will be taken:

  • Clear messaging from District as to the dates of the closure

  • Clear messaging on the steps that will be taken to clean the school site(s)

  • Information on the availability of online learning resources for students during the closure

  • Information on the availability of school work (paper packets) and where to access them

  • Information on access to our breakfast and lunch program during the closure

  • Any documents or processes that will be required upon the re-opening of schools

We appreciate your understanding and will continue to get information out to you as quickly as we can.  In the meantime, enjoy your Spring Break next week. We will keep you informed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tracy Smith
