Dear RVUSD families, We just found out that the scope of the PG&E power shutdown event has been greatly reduced which means we can now open three schools that were previously announced for closure. The following sites WILL be open for students tomorrow and Thursday: Madrone Binkley Whited Village Spring Creek Matanzas RVCS- Matanzas The following sites are still on the closure list. Austin Creek Sequoia RVCS-Sequoia If anything happens to change for these last 3 school sites, we will update you as soon as possible. Once again, we extend our appreciation for your patience and flexibility.

There is a potential PSPS event Wednesday into Thursday. If this shutdown occurs, it will be at Whited, Madrone, Binkley, RVCS-Sequoia, Sequoia and Austin Creek. Village, Spring Creek, Matanzas and RVCS-Matanzas will not be affected. There is a chance that there will not be a shutdown but if there is, here is the draft plan IF the latest information we have from PG&E does not change: Wednesday: If we lose power it will not be until 2pm so all schools will be open on Wednesday. We will continue to offer extended care after school even without power. Thursday: PG&E will start powering us back up on Thursday morning, on the earlier side. So, at this point in time we are planning on starting school without power if necessary knowing the power will come on some time during the school day. We are working on the details for sack lunches and phone communication guidelines. We have checked with our insurance company and the California Department of Education and have learned that we can have staff and students on campus without power as long as we can determine it is safe. We will use fire watch protocols, lanterns, and ask students and staff to bundle up for the morning chill. We will use cell phones and walkie talkies to communicate and let families know how to reach school sites if they need to. If there are any changes to this plan, we will be sure to let you know as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience during this uncertainty.

Dear RVUSD Families, We are excited to welcome our students back to school starting on Monday, November 4, 2019. We have truly missed them and hope to get back to a normal routine as soon as possible. All school sites have been thoroughly cleaned. In addition, all HVAC filters have been inspected and replaced as needed. All campuses were inspected by an outside agency and it was determined that it is safe for students and staff to return. Throughout the week, principals will monitor air quality and determine indoor/outdoor play. Principal newsletters will have more details regarding the week. Please let your teacher or principal know if your child has any particular emotional or health needs this week so that we can provide resources. In care and in partnership, Tracy Smith Superintendent
