School History
The Rincon Valley Union School District (RVUSD) furthered its educational vision in August of 2004 with the establishment of the Rincon Valley Charter School (RVCS), located on the Sequoia Elementary campus. In August of 2013, the district expanded RVCS to a second campus, located on the Matanzas Elementary Campus. In fall 2021, we combined our two campuses onto one site, dedicated exclusively to the needs and interests of middle school students.
Mission and Vision Statement
The mission of Spring Lake Middle School is to build better global citizens.
Global citizenship helps students to:
Build their own understanding of the world
Think about their values and what is important to them
Take learning into the real world
Challenge ignorance and intolerance
Get involved in their local, national and global communities
Develop an argument and voice their opinions
See that they have the power to act and influence the world around them
SLMS fosters “GRIT”, which we define as growth, resilience, integrity, and teamwork. To us, this means that students should show growth, resilience, integrity, and teamwork. Every teacher, every class, and every activity helps students develop the GRIT they need to be successful. These might be direct lessons related to GRIT during Advocacy or might be embedded in course work as students work on group projects or challenging new concepts.
