On June 20, 2023, the District’s Governing Board adopted a resolution to finalize a transition from an at-large election system to a by-trustee area election system with five separate trustee areas.
Upon petition to the Sonoma County Committee on School District Organization (“County Committee”) in accordance with Education Code section 5019, the County Committee approved of the District’s proposal on August 21, 2023 to implement the new trustee area map, and selected election sequencing, for District Board elections starting in November 2024. A copy of the County Committee’s Resolution from August 21st (which includes a copy of the trustee area map) is attached.
Trustee Areas 1 and 4 will hold elections in 2024 and 2028, etc., while Trustee Areas 2, 3, and 5 will hold elections in 2026 and 2030, etc. Thereafter, the 2030 Census will be released and the map will need to be evaluated for population balance in accordance with Education Code section 5019.5 at that time.
