Extreme Weather Safety Protocol and Plan - Implemented Today

Dear RVUSD Families,

With today’s weather conditions, RVUSD implemented our Extreme Weather Safety Protocol and Plan in alignment with SB 1248. Because this is the beginning of the school year and today was the first time we have implemented the protocol, we wanted to make families aware of the steps we are taking to actively monitor weather conditions and help ensure our students remain safe and comfortable while at school.

Today, conditions reached the Orange level of our protocol during lunchtime. At this level, schools should Reduce vigorous physical activity, consider shortening outdoor time, have options for shade/indoors for students who have heat sensitivity.

We do not plan to send a message to families each time the protocol is implemented for a minor or moderate level. However, we want you to know that our schools are monitoring weather conditions and following the District’s established procedures when conditions warrant additional precautions.  If we reach a major or extreme level in the future we will do our best to notify you in a timely manner so you are aware that recess or other outside activities were modified or canceled.  

If you believe your child has a sensitivity to heat, please make sure your child’s school is aware. This information will help staff appropriately support and accommodate your child during future hot-weather days, including days when conditions may be more severe.
