Advisory Notice: Prescribed Burn Near Hood Mountain

Dear RVUSD Community,
We have received some concerns about the nearby smoke and we understand that seeing or smelling smoke can cause stress, especially given our region's wildfire history. We want to reassure families that there is currently no threat to our schools, and students and staff are safe as we continue with our regular school day.
A planned prescribed burn is taking place today, Wednesday, October 14th, near Hood Mountain on private property along Pythian Road. Smoke may be visible from some of our campuses. We have been advised that winds are expected to carry smoke away from Rincon Valley, though conditions can change.
We are actively monitoring air quality and weather conditions throughout the day. At this time, no changes are being made to school schedules or activities. If conditions change, we will communicate promptly with families and staff. For your information, linked here is our District safety plan for extreme weather.
In partnership,
Matthew Harris
Interim Superintendent,
Rincon Valley Union School District
