Our Mathematics focus is to implement a balanced instructional program that provides ALL students with the opportunities, experiences and resources to be successful. The expectation is that ALL students will become proficient in basic computational and procedural skills, develop conceptual understanding, and become adept problem solvers. These goals are supported strategically through four program components:
The use of grade specific, rigorous instructional units from Eureka Math.
The use of teacher experts, consulting teachers, and district leadership to guide professional development.
The use and analysis of formative periodic assessments.
The use of assessment data to focus and implement immediate intervention where students most need help.
The California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics are based on three major principles: focus, coherence, and rigor. There are two types of standards—the Standards for Mathematical Practice and Standards for Mathematical Content—that together define the mathematics students need to understand, know, and be able to do at each grade level.
Common Core standards set an expectation of understanding for every grade level and they prepare students for higher mathematics. Each overview below provides information on the big topics taught in Kindergarten through grade 8.
Eureka Math is the math curriculum for grades K-6. Eureka Math features the same curriculum structure and sequence as EngageNY Math—but with a suite of resources to support teachers, students, and families.
Carnegie Learning is the math curriculum for grades 7-8.
With the Renaissance Star Math integration (Grades 1-6), Freckle offers student-paced, skills-based math practice for grades K-12. Specific math exercises can be assigned, based on grade-level standards. For students who need practice outside of their grade level, Freckle offers self-paced practice that continuously adapts as they progress.
