Future Chefs is a competition put together with the concept of providing education on healthy eating habits by engaging the kids in a camaraderie-filled “cook-off”. This event challenges students to put a spin on some of their favorite recipes by making them more nutritious and utilizing ingredients that they may not otherwise use. Entries are accepted from 4th, 5th and 6th grade Rincon Valley Union School District students. From these entries, eight students are formally invited to participate in the Future Chef Competition where they cook their featured dish in front of a panel of judges as well as any teachers and parents that attend the event. The local media is invited to attend and to take pictures that are often publicized in print or online media.

On the day of the event, the participants will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Originality

  • Kid Friendly

  • Ease of Preparation

  • Healthy Attributes

  • Plate Presentation

  • Taste

Each finalist receives a framed plaque, a recipe book of all finalists’ recipes, a t-shirt, an apron and a chef hat in addition to other prizes generously donated by local businesses throughout the community. The top three students also receive added bonus prizes as further incentive to participate in this fun-filled event!
